Who is this Bolivar character?

~Bolivar was a leader of several independence movements throughout South America. He was the first president of Colombia in 1819 he was absent until 1827 were he returned until 1830. His absense from 1819 to 1827 was due to him fighting the spanish in Peru and Bolivia. Credited with leading the fight for independence in what are now the countries of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia, he is referred as a hero in these countries and throughout much of the rest of Hispanic America.
